First launched by Rockwell Automation in 1991, the SLC 500 range reached end of life in 2024 and is now obsolete. The SLC 500 range contains a variety of analog and digital I/O modules, coming in 4, 8, 16 and 32 channel varieties, as well as 2x2, 4x4 and 6x6 combined configurtations.

A wide range of processor modules are available, able to handle up to 8192 I/O points with memory sizes ranging from 1K to 64K words.

Communications modules allow for the use of numerous protocols, including EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+, DH-485, Universal Remote I/O and serial.
