YR4818TQ YAG Rod Assembly
YAG Rod Assembly
YAG rod: A synthetic crystal of yttrium aluminum garnet doped with neodymium atoms. This is the "gain medium" that amplifies light to create the laser beam.
Pump source: A light source, often a flashlamp, that pumps photons into the YAG rod to excite the neodymium atoms.
Optical cavity: The YAG rod is housed within a cavity with two mirrors, one of which is partially reflective. This cavity traps the light, causing it to bounce back and forth through the rod and amplify until it exits as a laser beam.
